Alexandre-Évariste Fragonard (1780–1850) was a French painter, sculptor, and lithographer, best known for his historical and genre paintings. Born in Grasse, France, he was the son of the renowned Rococo painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard. Alexandre-Évariste studied under Jacques-Louis David and later became a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His career spanned various artistic styles, including Neoclassicism and Romanticism, and he received several commissions for decorative works in public buildings such as the Palace of Versailles.
Fragonard's work is characterized by its dramatic compositions, vivid color schemes, and attention to historical accuracy. He often depicted scenes from mythology, history, and literature, imbuing them with emotional intensity and a sense of grandeur. Despite living in the shadow of his famous father, Alexandre-Évariste carved out his own niche in the art world, contributing to the evolution of French painting during a period of significant artistic change.
