Alphonse Osbert (1857–1939) was a French Symbolist painter known for his ethereal landscapes and mystical themes. Born in Paris, Osbert studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under the tutelage of Henri Lehmann and Jean-Léon Gérôme. Initially influenced by the academic style, he later shifted towards Symbolism, inspired by the works of Puvis de Chavannes and the Neo-Impressionist movement. Osbert gained recognition for his dreamlike scenes that often featured twilight settings, solitary figures, and a soft, muted color palette.
Osbert's work is characterized by its focus on atmosphere and mood, employing a harmonious blend of light and color to evoke a sense of spiritual transcendence. His paintings often explore themes of solitude, contemplation, and the sublime in nature.
