Giovanni Bellini (c. 1430-1516) was an Italian Renaissance painter, known for his contributions to the Venetian school of painting. Born in Venice, he was a member of a prominent family of artists, including his father Jacopo Bellini and brother Gentile Bellini. Giovanni's style evolved over his long career, reflecting a synthesis of Byzantine traditions with new Renaissance ideals of humanism and naturalism.
Bellini's work is celebrated for its luminous color, atmospheric landscapes, and sensitive portrayal of light. His religious subjects, such as the "San Zaccaria Altarpiece," are particularly noted for their spiritual depth and emotional resonance. Bellini also painted numerous portraits and mythological subjects, demonstrating his versatility and mastery of different genres.
