Byam Shaw, born John Byam Liston Shaw in 1872, was a British painter, illustrator, and art teacher. He was a prominent figure in the world of fine arts during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known for his versatility in both subject matter and artistic mediums. Shaw's work ranged from portraiture and landscape painting to book illustrations and stained glass designs. He was heavily influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite movement and often incorporated elements of romanticism and symbolism into his art.
In addition to his artistic contributions, Shaw was an influential educator. He co-founded the Byam Shaw School of Art in London in 1910, which later became part of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. The school was instrumental in shaping a new generation of artists and played a significant role in the British art scene.
