Boris Grigoriev was a Russian painter and graphic artist, born on July 11, 1886, in Rybinsk, Russia. He was a prominent figure in the Russian avant-garde movement of the early 20th century and studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Grigoriev gained recognition for his series "Faces of Russia," which depicted the lives and conditions of peasants, workers, and intellectuals during a transformative period in Russian history. His work was characterized by a focus on social realism and a unique blend of Russian folk art with modernist techniques.
In the 1920s, Grigoriev lived in Paris and later moved to South America, where his work took on more international themes. Despite his expatriate status, the essence of Russian culture and society remained a significant influence in his art.
