Bjarke Ingels is a Danish architect known for his innovative and ambitious designs that challenge conventional architectural norms. Born in 1974 in Copenhagen, Ingels founded the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) in 2005, which has since become one of the leading architectural firms in the world. His work often incorporates sustainable design elements and seeks to blend functionality with aesthetic appeal. Some of his most notable projects include the VIA 57 West "courtscraper" in New York City, the Mountain Dwellings in Copenhagen, and the Google North Bayshore campus in California.
Ingels has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to architecture, including being named one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People. His approach, often described as "pragmatic utopian," aims to create designs that are both idealistic and achievable.
