Arturo Souto Feijoo (1902–1964) was a Spanish painter known for his contributions to the modernist and expressionist movements. Born in Pontevedra, Spain, Souto studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid before furthering his artistic education in Paris. He gained recognition in the 1920s and 1930s for his depictions of social scenes, landscapes, and still lifes, often imbued with a sense of social critique. His work was deeply influenced by the political climate of Spain, particularly the Spanish Civil War, which led him to go into exile in Mexico in 1939.
Souto's art is characterized by its strong use of color, texture, and form, often employing a mix of traditional and avant-garde techniques. His work reflects a deep concern for social issues, capturing the essence of the times he lived through. He was a prolific artist, participating in numerous exhibitions both in Spain and internationally.
