Arthur Lismer (1885-1969) was a Canadian painter, educator, and a founding member of the Group of Seven, a collective of artists known for their depictions of the Canadian landscape. Born in Sheffield, England, Lismer moved to Canada in 1911, where he became an influential figure in the country's art scene.
Lismer's work is characterized by its bold use of color, strong brushwork, and emphasis on the rugged beauty of the Canadian wilderness. He often painted scenes of forests, lakes, and coastal areas, capturing the unique qualities of light and terrain. In addition to his contributions as a painter, Lismer was also a dedicated art educator, serving as the vice-principal of the Victoria School of Art and Design and later working at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
