Apollinary Vasnetsov (1856–1933) was a Russian painter and graphic artist, best known for his historical and landscape paintings. Born in the village of Riabovo, he was the younger brother of the famed Russian artist Viktor Vasnetsov. Initially trained as a historian, Apollinary later shifted his focus to art, studying under his brother and at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. He gained prominence for his depictions of medieval Moscow, capturing the architecture and daily life of the city in a romanticized, yet historically accurate manner.
Vasnetsov's work is characterized by its meticulous attention to detail, atmospheric effects, and a deep sense of nostalgia for Russia's past. His landscapes often evoke a poetic and dreamlike quality, blending realism with elements of Russian folklore. Vasnetsov was also a founding member of the Union of Russian Artists and contributed to stage designs for various theatrical productions.
