Anthony Thieme (1888–1954) was a Dutch-American landscape and marine painter known for his impressionistic style. Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Thieme studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague before immigrating to the United States in the early 1920s. He settled in Rockport, Massachusetts, where he became an integral part of the local art community and established his own art school. Thieme gained recognition for his New England seascapes and landscapes, often capturing the unique light and atmosphere of the region.
Thieme's work is characterized by its luminous color palette, intricate brushwork, and a keen sense of composition. He was highly skilled in capturing the subtle interplay of light and shadow, whether it was a bustling harbor scene or a tranquil countryside landscape.
